Last November I traded with Tim (MudManTim) from KLOV another collector my Vs. Hogans Alley for a nice working Pengo. Since then I’ve pretty much keep putting off restoring it but over the last few nights I’ve decided it was time to start the restore. The cabinet is in great condition and this shouldn’t take too long to restore.

As you can see the marquee is in great shape! I’m sure a little Novus Polish will make it look as good as new.

The bezel is in pretty good shape. Unfortunately, some of the blue ink on the bottom of the art has pulled up. Should be able to touch it up.

Control Panel Overlay (CPO) needs to be replaced. Lucky for me, Jeff Rothe from RotheBlog vectored the CPO and Rich Lint from This Old Game reproduced them from Jeff’s files.

I’m not sure what Sega used to paint / finish their coin doors but seeing this isn’t the first one I’ve seen look like this. I’ll be sand blasting this and repainting this ASAP.

First order of action is to strip the cabinet.

The inside of the cabinet is in very nice shape so I left the harness and power supply safely in the cabinet. This will help during reassembly in a few weeks.

The front of the cabinet appears to have been kicked at one time. It’s minor but I figured it’s best to reinforce the the problem with a piece of 3/4″ birch plywood, gorilla glue and some some wood screws.

Over the next week or two I’m planing on cleaning all the black vinyl on the inside and outside of the cabinet with Naphtha which will not need replacing or painting. The cabinet needs very little amount of bondo work which is also a very good thing. From there we will be giving it a fresh coat of Pengo Blue.

So, this is where Pengo sits for now.
